Imagine for a moment, trying to take a toddler through the grocery store so that you can purchase your groceries for the week.  Do you know how many times you stop?  How many times they want something random?  This floral photography session began on one of these grocery store trips with my daughter, Atizle. It was the middle of January and she decided that we just HAD to HAVE a bouquet of flowers.  It would brighten up the house!  She grabbed up one of the $5 bouquets that were sitting near the meat department.  Why do they put flowers in the meat department anyway?

Since the flowers were only $5, and because they really would brighten up the house, I allowed this on the fly purchase.  Once the bouquet made it home, she was absolutely thrilled that we had these random flowers on the kitchen table.  The bouquet was a mix of different flowers including daisies, dahlias, carnations, and some random flower I hadn’t ever seen before (and therefore didn’t know the name of).  We talked about the different kinds of flowers in our new bouquet.  So, I tried to find out what the mystery flower was.  To the best of my knowledge and research it is called an Alstromeria flower.  She sniffed them and declared they smelled sooooo good!

The next day, while she was napping, I decided to do a mini still life photography session using them and the natural light coming through the window.  I created a variety of different scenes with this bouquet.  The photographs from this session highlight the individual flowers that were in the mixed bouquet.  Additionally, I created mini bouquets using two or three different flowers and photographed those as well.  This is a fun series that will definitely brighten up any room of your house, especially in the winter!  Plus, these photographs will last much longer than the original bouquet did!
